Astro Protocol is now available on Steam
We’re excited to share that Astro Protocol is coming to Steam! Wishlist the game now to support us and stay updated on the full release:
The demo is already live on Steam, so you can try the latest version there today!
New Update: Version 0.8 Highlights
The latest 0.8 update brings several big improvements:
- Saving and Loading - You can now pause your conquest of the stars and continue your campaign at any time.
- More sound effects and music - Start turn, colonization and unit selection sound effects and one new music track
- Countless AI Improvements - We’ve made significant AI upgrades and bug fixes to improve how the AI opponents play.
- Countless quality of life improvement - Clearer map colors, more tooltips, etc.
- Countless bug fixes
What’s Next: Victory System Overhaul
We’re now focusing on redesigning the victory conditions to make endgame goals more dynamic and competitive:
- The current "accumulate points every turn" system will be replaced with objective-based victory points.
- You’ll gain points by meeting key conditions like: "Control 6 planets" or "Control 14 stations".
- These victory points are not permanent, they’re granted only while you meet the conditions and can be lost if your control slips.
- The first player to reach the required victory point total wins the game.
- These victory conditions and the amount of victory points they give will be randomized for each game.
We believe this will create more tension, strategic battles over critical systems, and fewer passive "wait and win" scenarios.

I hope the addition of Steam doesn't result in this version being abandoned! I've seen it happen before, and... well, I have reasons to avoid touching Steam ever again, and know a few others with very different reasons for reaching the same conclusion. It's got some benefits (including the simple onf of reaching a larger audience), but some of us won't be going there if it's the only way to get updates. Please don't leave us behind?
No, we will not abandon Itch! Currently all our demo beta builds will be available in Itch at the same as in Steam as the release pipeline is fully automated. I should've included this in the post.
I'm not yet sure how we will handle the Itch side of things for the full release, but at least the demo will be available and always up to date in Itch. I need to study the release as I've never tried to sell anything in Itch before.
I appreciate the clarification, thanks! And from what I know of both (working with people who have done it, not doing it myself), Steam's systems are easier to use, but itch isn't that bad (better than GOG by some accounts).
